Pros & Cons

  • The culture and the learning opportunities. The people are wonderful, always happy to help and are invested in your learning development. I have been given the opportunity to have 2 rotations to try out different role. This has allowed me to fast track my learning and discover a role that suits me
  • The opportunities that are available to everyone in the company. Also, the approachability of many people as you are able to understand what everyone does and they are also happy to share. The scale of the company is also great to work in to see how they cooperate in an International market.
  • Trainings and learning received - Positive workplace culture embracing graduates - Career progression opportunities -Completing meaningful work
  • The working environment and culture at L'Oreal is one of the best I have worked in. Everyone very supportive of your learning and development as a graduate and welcoming into the company.
  • The support and encouragement to build your own career. The company provide plenty of resources and guidance to allow not only progression in your current field, but the ability to make career moves across divisions and functions.
  • The fast-paced, dynamic environment can sometimes become a little too fast-paced with 1 person needing to take on more than their role's scope of work. Also, given the emphasis on not being a process-driven company - this becomes a double edged sword when things that should be rigid and very process based are not, and become inefficient with no set ways of completing them, creating barriers to workflows. Compensation can also be a little lacklustre for the amount of work that needs to be done, paying below market average relative to peers in other similar FMCG/Retail companies.
  • At times, the pace can be a little intense. Additionally, there can be quite a steep learning curve in getting to know the products and wider beauty-tech industry, however, other team members have always been supportive in bringing me up to speed.
  • The Barriers - Working at a global company means that sometimes it's a harder, lengthier process to get things across the line.
  • Workload and capacity - there are often times when I have experienced or have noticed team members experience a full workload. I think this is amplified when there aren't resources available on how to complete certain tasks/employees available to support. I personally have room to improve in regards to managing expectations and reaching out for support on tasks that are unfamiliar.
  • The workload can get quite stressful.

As a graduate, the company is very supportive of creating a career path for me and supporting my career progression. Regular meetings with my own team as well as HR make me feel seen and heard. The management in each team is also very good at providing opportunities in development areas to ensure that I am putting my best foot forward for progression

Sustainability is huge, lots of brands investing in refills & green beauty projects to do their part - business also has a legal sustainability advisor to conduct analysis on campaigns we want to run to ensure they're not harming the enviroment - Each brand has a unique brand cause in addition, focusing on issues like literacy, domestic abuse, support for oncology patients, LGBTQIA+ issues and representation etc.

Well balanced, healthy culture. The broader organisation works hard but equally provides many opportunities for socialisation, with regular drinks, team days and conferences. During business hours, people are always willing to lend a hand, particularly when it comes to learning something new.

On a day to day basis, as a Marketing MT, I would - Brief in & liaise with our design agency to get assets created for a multitude of purposes (for social media, edms, for print in catalogues, for e-retail etc) - Build out eDMs to be sent out by our CRM team to varying databases - Assist with event organisation, both internal & external - Facilitate media campaign distribution (eg. working with creative agency to get assets created) - Legal briefings/review for new products or competitions/offers - Lead/own local packoffs (where we create sets here in AU for distribution to local market) - Review and analyse market/brand performance to present/send to Marketing Director - Forecasting stock requirements for new launches - Coordinating the order form for retailers to use to order products

My managers have been great as they are very open to talk to and have provided any assistance when needed. They have approached communication with weekly meetings and have given me enough freedom to do things by myself while also providing feedback of things done not so well.

Dress code is dress as yourself! You have flexibility to dress for your day and how you want. Location is accessible and facilities are great, well lit and customised workspaces to the brand you are working in.

Recruitment
The graduate assessment process was very smooth and well organised. L'Oreal were prompt at advising on your progression and keeping communication clear. There were a few interviews until we got to the final stage (an assessment centre) - We had to work in groups to create a presentation - We also had to present individually - Then a 1:1 interview, that asked questions like: - How we would deal with certain ethical situations - How we would problem solve certain situations - What drew us to L'Oreal and what we see our long term career with the company looking like - Previous experience and situations Whilst 'Be Yourself' is possibly the most cliched advice to ever give, L'Oreal and it's culture not only reward authenticity, but demand it. If a candidate in an interview is pretending to be someone they're not for the sake of answering questions how they think the assessor wants it answered, this will be picked up on straight away. Authenticity also comes down to how much evidence you can provide when it comes to your answers - if you say you're passionate about sustainability, how does your CV or hobbies reflect this? Do you take the time to volunteer for an environmental-focused organisation? Do you enjoy reading about the issue more broadly? What insights can you give regarding your opinions on the issue? Or, for another example, if you say you enjoy being challenged and challenging yourself, how can you back this up? Did you undertake some subjects you knew you might find difficult in your tertiary studies for the sake of broadening your thinking? In a previous role, did you volunteer for projects outside your normal skillset for the sake of professional development?

Pay is perhaps less competitive than other companies, however this is largely offset by being an enjoyable place to work at. The products and staff discount is the best I have heard about or seen. The leave is generous and their is ample after work events to attend free of charge.

Training

Training
Training is one of the best I have seen in a company before. They offer 3 weeks a year that are dedicated to training, organising externals to run sessions in person and learn about a very extensive range of training sessions. It is not just online modules like most other companies. There is so much development by far the most a company offers its employees. As for on job training, everyone in all teams are willing to give you a hand on anything and teach you. Everyone is willing to spend time with you to learn.

Work Hours
Quite flexible. On a given day there will be some team members in the office, others at home and perhaps even some working remotely. At the same time, some will start early and pick up their kids in the afternoon, while others start later at a time that suits them. On the whole, there is little concern about what hours are worked and when, provided tasks are completed on time.

They have action plans for their environmental causes and initiatives which had started well before I began. They are working towards many environmental plans to better the environment. I worked on the Kiehl's upgraded recycle and be rewarded program.
