Sophie Turner

I think it’s quite cool that I get to work with different people from lots of areas.

6.30 AM

Alarm goes off and I try not to snooze more than once. I get up and hop in the shower, pick my outfit for the day, and do my hair and makeup. I then grab my packed lunch from the night before, finish off my overnight oats, and head out the door. I catch the train into the city with my two flat mates who are also in Graduate positions in other businesses.

7.50 AM

I leave Britomart Train Station and head to the HSBC building (a very short walk I must add). I then put my lunch in the fridge, make a coffee in the kitchen, grab a piece of fruit, and head back to my desk to start just after 8am. I say Good Morning to my team who are early birds and usually here before me, check my calendar, drink my coffee, and get my day started.

8.15 AM

My team and I usually start with a quick debrief of what we have on for the day and what our goals are. I am mainly in meetings until 10am with different people from across the business. I work on different projects that my Manager has given me and it has been awesome that they are flexible. I can always add my own spin on things and share my ideas. I think it’s quite cool that I get to work with different people from lots of areas.

10.00 AM

I will usually head downstairs with a work colleague and just get away from my desk, grab a coffee, and take some time to reset. The HSBC lobby has an awesome Mojo Coffee Café and a really beautiful space for people to catch up or just unwind. Today at Rothbury was the best day of the month as it was our monthly morning tea! The food is insanely good and it’s a nice time to catch up with colleagues from other teams around the office.

10.30 AM

From this time until about lunch I will do personal debriefs of the meetings that I’ve had and make job lists for myself, while trying to get through them and tick as many off as I can.

lunch

12.30 PM

I usually have my lunch around this time. I quite often meet up with one of my best friends who works just a couple of buildings down the road. If it’s a sunny day we will take our lunch down and eat in the sun by the ferry terminal. Working in town, particularly at lunch time, there is an awesome buzz around the place. Quite often some of the Rothbury team will head out for lunch on a Friday, which is always a fun time. If I have no plans I will just chill out in the HSBC lobby downstairs.

1.30 PM

After lunch I continue with my tasks. Today I had a meeting with someone from Southern Cross, so my team and I headed downstairs for an afternoon coffee at Mojo to meet up with them and discuss plans going forward.

2.30 PM

I am part of the Rothbury Group Social Club Committee and today we had a meeting planning our next event! We brainstormed ideas and narrowed it down to our top three. This is another fun addition to the job, and it’s nice to get involved in office life as you get to do more work with your peers.

3.00 PM

Today I headed into our kitchen and grabbed a cup of tea and looked out at the stunning view – it never gets old.

3.15 PM

I am currently studying to be a Level 5 Qualified Adviser so I have been trying to get at least an hour of study in each day. I am very lucky that my boss is so flexible with this.

4.45 PM

Today I was comfortable with what I had done and decided it was time to head out of the office for the day. I head off to the train and say goodbye to my team.

5.30 PM

I made it to my 5:30PM Gym Class. I really enjoy doing this at the end of the day. It helps me unwind, and I find it’s a good way to recharge and do something for myself.

6.45 PM

I arrive back to my flat, have another shower and tidy up my clothes for the day. Luckily, my flat mate was on dinner tonight! A plus not cooking every night after a busy day at work.

7.30 PM

My flat mates and I debrief our days while eating dinner around our dining table. We joke around and have a few laughs.

8.15 PM

Tidy up and do the dishes to start again fresh tomorrow. I pack my lunch for the next day so it’s ready to go in the morning. Don’t get me wrong, some days I run out of time and have to buy lunch!

9.00 PM

By this time, I am usually shattered. I say goodnight to my flat mates, hop into bed, and watch Netflix for an hour or so. Another day done!
