Our Product, Strategy and Customer Experience career pathway has four programs you can choose from. 

Business Banking – CommSec (Sydney)

You’ll rotate across three teams over the 15 month CommSec Graduate Program. Our team of trading, product and account experts work together to provide our retail and wholesale clients with access to online broking and investment product options. You’ll develop your knowledge and expertise within the CommSec and broader Business Banking teams.  

At the end of your program, you can expect to successfully transition into a challenging role as an Analyst across one of our CommSec teams.   

Business Banking – Product Development (Sydney) 

You’ll rotate across three teams over the 15 month Product Development Graduate Program.  

You’ll experience direct exposure to the development of new propositions, in-life product lifecycle management and uplifting our customer experiences. 

At the end of your program, you can expect to successfully transition into a challenging role as an Analyst across one of the following teams Health, Payments, Everyday Business Banking, Business Lending and Analytics, Data and Decision Science.  

Retail Banking Services – Digital (Sydney) 

You’ll rotate across three teams over the 18 month Digital Graduate Program. Outside of your rotations you’ll also have three unique Retail Banking Services (RBS) experiences:  

  • Three weeks in Customer Immersion where you can connect with our customers directly and be inspired to positively impact their experience
  • Five weeks mastering Design Thinking methodologies to tackle real-world business opportunities
  • Career Success throughout your third rotation to help successfully offboard you from the Program using Talent Acquistion and Senior Leaders

Teams you could land in beyond your program include Digital Strategy, Digital Operations, User Experience Design (UX), User Interface Design (UI), Service Design, Design Research or Content & Publishing.

Retail Banking Services – Retail Product Management (Sydney) 

You’ll rotate across three teams over the 18 month Retail Product Management Graduate Program. Outside of your rotations you’ll also have three unique Retail Banking Services (RBS) experiences:  

  • Three weeks in Customer Immersion where you can connect with our customers directly and be inspired to positively impact their experience.
  • Five weeks mastering Design Thinking methodologies to tackle real-world business opportunities.
  • Career Success throughout your third rotation to help successfully offboard you from the Program using Talent Acquisition and Senior Leaders.

Teams you could land in beyond your program include Product Management, Strategy, Customer Experience, and Customer Support.

It will vary depending upon what department/business unit you are in. However in my circumstance I am an Graduate/Analyst; my daily task involve morning emails, attending to applications and strategy papers, lots of meetings, some longer one rife with information or short ones to provide updates. Then after a lunch with the team it is back into credit writing. Then finishing off the day with emails. There is always time for a coffee run with the team and some good quality banter.

My role involves balancing business and customer needs in innovative and strategic ways. Day to day, I work on projects that involve uplifting certain aspects of the CBA App. I also work towards my graduate development goals to ensure I make the most out of this experience.

Cons

    • As the company has the head office in Sydney, most of the teams are located there. If you are based in other cities, you may not have anyone in your team around you.

    • There is a level of competitiveness I find specifically in the Grad program cohort.

    • Limited career progression.

    • The over-importance of networking. You may not get as far as being 100% your authentic self.

    • With CBA being such a large organization, it can sometimes be difficult to navigate the ecosystem and find the right person who can help.
