Programs

The ATO has many pathways to start a career for university students and graduates.

Graduate program: The award-winning ATO Graduate Program provides ongoing training, mentoring and career development opportunities.

University Paid Internship Program (UPIP): The University Paid Internship Program offers university students hands-on, paid work experience. Build practical skills and get a head-start on your career.

ATO Graduate Program

The ATO is looking for graduates ready to make big things happen and they want you to be a part of it!

Be part of a team that combats crime and fraud, creates, and delivers programs to support the community, and protects the data of millions of people. Working alongside experts, you’ll receive the support, training and mentoring you need to build a successful career.

The award-winning ATO Graduate Program provides:

an intensive 12-month program
work-life balance including working from home, flex time and generous leave entitlements
endless opportunities for career progression
job rotations so you can explore different areas and discover where you want your career to take you
a competitive starting salary of $72,951 plus 15.4% super

On completion, graduates will:

get a promotion and a pay rise! Your salary will start at $84,028 plus 15.4% super
continue to receive lots of employee benefits, including four weeks annual leave, annual salary increase*, and flexible working hours, generous leave entitlements
have further training, development, and study opportunities, including access to tuition assistance programs.

Disciplines

The ATO is looking for people from disciplines including Information Technology, Finance, Economics, Accounting and Commerce, Law, Design, Marketing and Communication, Human Resource Management, and Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM), and Statistics and more.

Eligibility

You can apply for the graduate program if you’re an Australian citizen and either:

completed your university degree within the last 5 years (1 January 2021 to 31 December 2025)
are in your final year of study.

University Paid Internship Program

If you’re interested in applying for the graduate program, when you finish your degree, the University Paid Internship Program (UPIP) is a great first step.

The UPIP provides university students with hands-on paid work experience, aligned with what you’re studying at university. Dive into challenging work, while enjoying a casual position with flexible hours.

Applications for UPIP are open all year with opportunities available across the country.
