The team 

The Licensing team is the Australian Securities & Investment Commission’s front line gatekeeper for our regulated participants. The team is responsible for assessing applications from those seeking a financial services or consumer credit licence, or to become registered to provide company audit and SMSF audit services to Australian consumers and businesses. The function involves assessing that applicants are fit and proper, have the knowledge and skills to provide the relevant services, have adequate financial, human and technological resources, and appropriate systems and procedures to perform their roles efficiently, honestly and fairly.

The role 

  • Assess basic to moderately complex Australian Financial Services Licence applications, as per the Corporations Act, using established policy and procedures

  • Assess basic to moderately complex Australian Credit Licence applications as per the National Consumer Credit Protection Act, using established policy and procedures 

  • Communicate effectively with applicants and prepare documentation on issues identified during the assessment process

  • Provide recommendations and prepare documentation for refusal of licence applications

  • Liaise and negotiate with a range of internal and external stakeholders and provide exceptional customer service in the management of escalated customer enquiries and requisitions 

  • Proactively participate in process and policy improvement

About you

You have a relevant bachelor’s degree and an ability to interpret legislation and regulatory requirements with a high level of attention to detail. You can work towards deadlines, whilst adhering to procedures in place in a timely manner. You have strong verbal and written communication skills and can liaise and communicate effectively with a variety of stakeholders, including applicants. You can use critical thinking skills to provide recommendations. Experience in researching and interpreting complex information and legislation will be highly regarded.
