Your role:

Your role as a Part Time Navy Reserve Media and Communications Officer is to fill and supplement the full-time public affairs capability. You are expected to provide a broad range of media, communications and public affairs functions for the Navy. 

You will serve at sea and ashore in exercises and maritime operations to profile naval activities or deploy into Joint Public Affairs roles. You willyou're your communication and media liaison skills to provide strategic and operational communications advice to your team to assist with the handling of topical issues. You may also be required to assist with promotion and media coverage of events to enhance Defence image and reputation. 

Required Skills:

  • Crisis and issues management
  • Media event coordination
  • Journalism, writing, editing and publishing
  • Corporate communications (external preferred)
  • Government and community relations
  • Social media
  • Communication research and evaluation
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills
  • A sound understanding of media dynamics
  • Confidence in dealing with the media and senior officers
  • An ability to work well in a crisis
  • A broad understanding of the Navy

Salary: 

You'll be paid to complete military and initial employment training. Upon completion, you'll enjoy a tax-free daily rate of up to $226 per day.
