Opportunity

Here's your chance to gain nationally-recognised cookery qualifications – or make the most of those you have already – in a variety of lively workplaces. As an Air Force Chef you'll benefit from much more than just highly-regarded training and a unique lifestyle:

  • Better pay than most civilian chef jobs
  • Special allowances and generous superannuation
  • Good working conditions and modern equipment
  • More appealing hours than most civilian chef jobs
  • Supportive team environment
  • Free medical and dental care
  • Free sport and leisure facilities
  • Travel and leave entitlements
  • Friendships that last a lifetime
  • Ongoing training and development

All that plus meaningful experiences such as participating in Air Force exercises and operations and supporting communities in need – with the potential for overseas travel.

Your role

As an Air Force Chef you'll work in well equipped kitchens helping to keep our personnel healthy and well nourished.

No ordinary cooking role, the job offers far more variety than you'd find in the civilian world. One week you could be on base preparing meals for a VIP event, and the next week you could be cooking in Air Force's deployable kitchen or preparing meals in an airborne galley.

Whether you already have experience as a chef, or you're just embarking on this popular vocation, you'll be trained in all aspects of food preparation and production – including planning and procurement. The experience and qualifications you gain will benefit you in the future, both in and out of the Air Force.

This job promises plenty of variety, interest, camaraderie and adventure. Better still, you'll be working for a dynamic people-focused organisation that offers a great lifestyle plus opportunities you simply won't find anywhere else. The Air Force is committed to developing the professional skills and knowledge of our Chefs. We inspire camaraderie through social and professional networking.

Sounds good? Then apply now (below).

Salary

  • Fully-paid trade training
  • Once trained, starting package over $65,659 p.a. (salaries correct as of 01/08/2019)
  • Generous superannuation

Location

You may be posted to one of the major Air Force bases around Australia such as RAAF Base Amberley, RAAF Base Darwin or RAAF Base Tindal.

Entry Requirements

If you're interested in being an Air Force Chef, you don't need any qualifications to apply through Unqualified Entry. You'll be given all the required training once you've joined. To apply, you'll need to:

  • Be at least 17 years old
  • Be an Australian citizen
  • Have completed Year 10 with passes in English and Maths

If you do have relevant qualifications and experience, you'll be able to join through Qualified Entry. To apply you'll need, in addition to above:

  • A Certificate III in Commercial Cookery (or similar) plus relevant experience.

Medical and fitness guidelines also apply.
