About the opportunity

From the moment you join Alcoa’s Graduate Program, you will be given the opportunity of a permanent career that will take you far and beyond what you’ve ever imagined, setting you on a career path to contribute to a more sustainable world. You will grow professionally, expand technically, and become part of our community where you will be inspired and challenged daily.

With best-in-class bauxite mining and rehabilitation practices, the lowest-carbon alumina refining system on the planet, game-changing innovations in aluminium smelting, and the industry’s most comprehensive portfolio of low-carbon products, Alcoa is working to reinvent the aluminium industry for a sustainable future, and we want you to join us!

All Alcoa’s graduate positions are permanent and commence with a three-year rotational program, designed to provide you a broad foundation of our WA Mining Operations as well as allowing you to tailor your career path towards your interests and individual goals.

Throughout the program, you will be provided with coaching, mentoring, hands-on and professional training to accelerate your development and maximise your full potential. The best part is that you’ll get to experience working in an on-site environment whilst working locally at either of our mines, enjoying a lifestyle where you can be home each and every night!

You will be exposed to numerous networking opportunities and be provided with an increasing level of responsibility where you will use your innovative thinking, motivation to learn and passion for growth to make an impact for our business. You will join an open-minded workplace where your ideas will be valued whilst developing professionally in a supportive environment that will encourage you to think outside the box.

As a Graduate Mining Engineer at Alcoa, you will rotate across our WA mine sites based in the Peel and Upper Southwest regions learn and develop your experience in:

  • Project planning, mining engineering and industrial engineering for the WA Mining operations.
  • Conducting project work that provides information, analysis and recommendations to mining management.
  • Assessing future and present operational needs and opportunities whilst providing required reports and recommendations to site and relevant stakeholders.
  • Mining operational exposure across our Huntly and Willowdale Bauxite Mines and Global Planning team to gain a solid understanding of the site operational and technical functions of our business.
  • Meeting the requirements of the Mines Safety and Inspection Regulations to attain a Quarry Managers certificate of competency.

About you

To be successful in this role and to play a part in our ongoing success you will be:

  • On the path to graduate by the end of 2022 with tertiary qualifications in Mining or Civil Engineering or have recently graduated in this field of study.
  • A self-starter with the ability to work autonomously.
  • Using your initiative and taking ownership of your work.
  • A strong communicator with well-developed people skills.
  • Analytically and open minded with a creative and collaborative approach to problem solving.
  • Driving positive outcomes with your ability to engage with and understand your customers.

I love going out into the field and watching a design I created to be executed to plan and hopefully look similar to how it did on the computer.
